Friday

Free Admission at Santa Anita Park

FreeFridaysThat’s right! Every Friday at the Santa Anita Park race tracks in Arcadia will cost you absolutely nothing to get in.  There’s free box seats, plus $1 specials on popcorn, soda, beer, coffee and hot dogs. It gives you a great excuse to play hookie, and place your bids on the prettiest horse, Devouring meat, corn syrup-laden soda pop, and engaging in gambling. What a lovely way to spend your Fridays during Lent!

Photo Prints Specials at Walgreens

Want to make up for not getting your lovey a V-day gift? Think it might be refreshing to have some physical prints of photos made for once? Well, it’s your lucky week! Walgreens online photo store is giving a week of deals. My personal favorite is Saturday’s deal, whwere you can 30 4×6 prints for $3. However, don’t be a nurk like me and order them, then proceed to never pick them up. (True story!) To cash in on this deal, just enter this code during checkout: WINTER30.

Alice in Wonderland Art Exhibit

GalleryNucleus_AliceWonderlandGallery Nucleus is having an opening reception for a show featuring artwork inspired by Alice in Wonderland.  Featuring works by artists which include Amy Sol, Chris Appelhans, Kukula, and Naoto Hattori, enjoy delectable free tea by Cha for Tea and get up in your best Alice-inspired outfit for a costume contest. The most exciting part of the exhibit is there will be never-before- seen concept art, production and film stills for the upcoming Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland and film maquettes from the actual movie, courtesy of Gentle Giant Studios, will be on display.

Sunday

Free Sound Workshop

amps-compSASSAS and Center for the Arts, Eagle Rock are putting together a monthly sound workshop and noise jam for musicians and sound artists who are up for experimenting with different instrumentations. Think out of the box, try something out of your comfort zone, and play with musicians you normally wouldn’t hang out with. Think of it as if you’re getting into a sandbox with a really neat playground, some weird-looking toys, and weirder-looking kids.

Time: 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Lazy Sundaes at Mandrake

DowntownTrainMandrake Bar, located on the fringe on the strip of art galleries on La Cienega, has a free concert every last Sunday of the month. This month’s lineup features bands Only Me, Daniel Brummel, Rama C. Bauer, Brittain Ashford, Dylan Sherman, Gin & Frolic, and The Downtown Train. The night ends with an open jam session with The Downtown Train Potluck Orchestra, so bring your guitar (or sitar) and have a blast. Plus, there will be free ice cream sundaes for all. No cover, free ice cream sundaes, bands play and you can join in on the fun. What more could you ask for?
