Sweet Ice Floes

Del’s Frozen Lemonade truck serves up a variety of natural Italian ice that hits the spot.

P1010376Del’s Frozen Lemonade is a refreshing treat that makes your mouth happy when the days are warm or when you just want something cool and lightly sweet.  It’s based on Italian ice from back in the days when people made it by going to the mountains and then putting some snow in their cups for a refreshing treat.

I’m happy to know we don’t have to do anything like that. When their truck rolls into yourP1010375neighborhood,  you can go to them and not risk wearing out a pair of shoes. They keep close to an old family recipe for Italian ice, and if it was brought from the old country you don’t mess with, as it has already been perfected from years of use.

Their flavors are: lemonade, peach-mango, cherry, and watermelon( $2 for small, $2.50 for medium, $3.25 for large) . They are currently developing a few more flavors that won’t be revealed for a couple months,  and from the sound of it they will be tasty and exciting.  The consistency of the frozen ice is difficult to explain;  it’s kind of like snow, and  you can tell that it’s not ice that was put in the blender. It’s difficult to say how you think they make the frozen goodness. I’m picturing a giant cheese grater.  The best thing about the frozen ice is that it’s sweetened by sugar, not syrups, so the flavor is mellower and doesn’t have that weird way too sweet taste. Besides their cute truck, they also have a store in Venice so you can always swing by their shop. Right now they’re having a special through Yelp on their new Italian dessert where you  buy 1 get 1 free. You can order a  medium, large or jumbo size and the offer is only good for their store, not for the truck. Just be sure to mention Yelp when you inquire about the special.
